this is a tradition i've had since 2018. at the beginning of each year, i make a new spotify playlist, name it after whatever year we've just started, and choose a cute photo for the cover (usually a random cat pic). as the year goes on, i fill it with songs that i think will end up being significant, for any reason. songs that i listen to a lot at a particular time and i think will remind of that time, songs that i hear when i go somewhere that will remind me of that place, or just new releases that i hear a lot or really like. many of these songs i already knew, but just got even more into them. sometimes i add songs i dont even care for that much, but they need to go in anyway because they're tied to a moment.

at the end of december, i listen to the playlist all the way through and relive the memories of the year, good or bad. i also always wonder if i should change the cat photo to a photo i've taken myself of a memory, but i am always just too attached to the cat after looking at it for a whole year!
